Abstract Description
Dr. Logan will describe the development, mission, and growth of INOVATE-Pain, a multisite collaborative network committed to advancing research and development of immersive technologies in the treatment of pediatric pain. INOVATE-Pain unites clinicians and clinical researchers in academic pediatric hospital settings with non-profit technology development efforts and software engineering expertise to promote and disseminate immersive technology interventions for youth with pain. Dr. Logan will illustrate the potential benefits of this collaborative network to support individual projects through presentation of her own initiative, VReal-School. Designed in collaboration with the MIT Nano-Immersion laboratory, VReal School is a VR-based simulation to address school avoidance in youth undergoing intensive interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation for chronic pain conditions. Logan will present results from the multi-phase development process of creating this type of immersive treatment tool including focus group research with stakeholders, design thinking-informed engagement with software development partners, and pilot testing of the intervention.
