How Could ICD-11 Chronic Primary Pain Criteria Be Improved for a Pediatric Population? A Data-Informed Approach
Panel Discussion
ICD-11 chronic primary pain criteria do not consider specifics of the pediatric population. Lisa-Marie Rau will present a way to investigate how (well) specific diagnoses can be allocated to children and adolescents with chronic pain and how (well) pediatric patients’ symptoms are represented by the available chronic primary pain diagnoses. She provides data of about 400 pediatric patients presenting at a specialized pain center for the first time. Using computer-based algorithms ICD-11 diagnoses were assigned according to the recorded (pain) symptoms. Patient characteristics of those who did not receive a diagnosis will be regarded in further detail to spark discussion on how criteria could be improved for the pediatric population.
