Diagnostic Classification Systems for Pediatric Pain Conditions: The Clinical Perspective

Panel Discussion

Abstract Description

Dr. Tham will present the clinician’s perspective on the utility of ICD-11 for diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain conditions for children and adolescents. She will also illustrate how ICD-11 can be informative for diagnostic interviews and application of treatment protocol and guidelines using clinical scenarios, from the patients and families’ perspective to the treatment team. This will be compared and contrasted with other diagnostic classification systems, such as the International Classification for Headache Disorders and the Rome IV Criteria. Dr. Tham will also present the work to date by the International Association for the Study of Pain Special Interest Group ICD-11 Task Force on this topic.
