A roadmap for engaging patients and caregivers as partners in pediatric pain research and care
Panel Discussion
Patient partnership is a shift from patients as research participants to being collaborators and members of research teams. This presentation will provide a foundational introduction to set the stage for subsequent panelists. It will provide a roadmap for pediatric pain researchers, clinicians, and policymakers about how to plan, undertake, and evaluate patient partnership. It will introduce the concept of patient partnership in research, values underlying meaningful partnership with patients, and best practices and international guiding resources for patient partnership. Dr. Chambers will highlight how partnership with patients and caregivers has directly informed her research program, and how patient partnership was foundational to launching the Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP) national knowledge mobilization network. Dr. Chambers will also share how partnership with patients and families has led to greater reach and impact of her research, and how this has led to practice and policy change and recommendations to improve pain.
