Tine Vervoort is an Associate Research Professor at the Department of Experimental-Clinical and Health Psychology at Ghent University. Dr. Vervoort has systematically conceptualized the dynamic interaction between children in pain and caregivers in terms that facilitate empirical study of family socialization and social context as determinants of child pain experience. Drawing upon an affective-motivational account of pain, she has developed a theoretically integrative and clinically informative program of research addressing the role and interrelationship of child pain-related attention and memory biases and the role of observer pain-related appraisals and emotion in understanding observers’ caregiving responses. She recently initiated research on mechanisms underlying racial disparities in child pain care. She also coordinates and works as clinical psychologist within her own multidisciplinary clinical practice.
