Workshop: Pediatric Quantitative Sensory Testing Hands-On Demonstration
Workshop
Dr. Rabbitts and Olivia Ohls will lead a workshop discussing practical principles of QST procedures, and providing hands-on demonstration of QST. Participants will have opportunity to rotate between three stations each focused on one basic QST assessment including applying thermal and mechanical stimuli to test pain thresholds, and temporal summation of pain. Station 1: Dr. Rabbitts will discuss practical principles of designing and conducting a QST protocol (e.g. language and script, sequence of tasks), and demonstrate assessment of temporal summation of pain utilizing weighted mechanical stimulators. Station 2: Ms. Ohls (manager of QST Core Seattle Children’s) will discuss procedures for initial QST training and maintenance of QST proficiency employed by the QST Core. Ms. Ohls will demonstrate procedures for assessing mechanical pain thresholds at multiple body locations using an algometer. Station 3: Dr. Holley will demonstrate assessment of heat pain thresholds utilizing a thermal sensory analyzer. In addition, methods for assessing conditioned pain modulation with thermal stimuli will be discussed.
