Abstract Description

It is challenging to quantify what is a success from chronic pain management interventions.  Having a child pain-free may seem ideal, but not at the cost of social isolation, inability to take part in their value based goals and receiving an education. Furthermore, the expectation of being pain-free is unrealistic for many young people with complex conditions that cause pain.  We feel that using an easily quantifiable marker of school attendance provides us with a good indication on whether a child’s pain management plan is succeeding.
