Abstract Description

Infants are subjected to several painful procedures in the emergency room. Although these procedures are often essential to infant management, they can be distressing for both infants and parents. Untreated pain in children can lead to short- and long-term consequences such as stress and impaired brain development. Therefore, it is imperative that effective pain and anxiety-reducing strategies are used consistently in all settings where painful procedures for children take place. Parents of infants experiencing procedural pain experience an overwhelming sense of powerlessness and fear.; Inadequate information about procedural pain affects parents' confidence  to respond to their babies' needs.
