Association between self-concept valence and disease symptoms in adolescent females with juvenile-onset fibromyalgia (JFM). Self-concept refers to an individual's self-perception and evaluation in relation to their physical, psychological, and social attributes, and their roles and identities. The study included 42 JFM patients and 34 matched healthy females, and used the Twenty Statements Test (TST) to measure self-concept valence. The results showed that JFM patients reported more negative self-concept valence, particularly in the categories of "disease-related", "personality", and "abilities/roles". Negative self-views were associated with more depression and anxiety, and higher auditory hypersensitivity, and negatively associated with resilience and self-compassion. The study highlights the importance of assessing and addressing negative self-concept views in juvenile fibromyalgia.
