Racial Disparities in Pediatric Pain Care: The Role of Observer and Pain Sufferer Characteristics.
Symposia
Presentation 1 will discuss findings from empirical research on observer (i.e., attentional processing of the pain of others, perspective-taking, and biases about pain experience) and pain sufferer (i.e., facial expressions of pain) characteristics that may account for racial disparities in pediatric pain care. Theoretical and practical implications will be offered, and future research avenues will be outlined.
