Abstract Description

Institution: University of Brasilia - Distrito Federal, Brazil

The aim of the study is to evaluate a simple and effective method of collecting salivary cortisol in newborns. Salivary cortisol assessment has become feasible in studies of infants and young children due to the development of reliable assays for cortisol measurement in saliva. The collection of salivary cortisol in newborns is an important non-invasive technique to assess pain and stress in newborns. There are several techniques that can be used to collect saliva from newborns, however we must look for the one with the best results and the lowest risk to patients.
