Abstract Description

Institution: Boston Children's Hospital - Boston, Massachusetts, United States

This abstract aims to describe the initial development of a young adult pain rehabilitation program launched in March 2023. This program is an intensive interdisciplinary pain treatment program developed to meet the unique needs of young/emerging adults with chronic pain through physically- and psychologically-oriented care. The program is a day hospital model in which individuals are admitted for 5 days in 4-week cohorts. Patients receive a combination of Psychology/PT/OT/Social work individual and group sessions. Standardized measures were administered at baseline and again at discharge from program. Preliminary results are based on quantitative data that examines functional disability, quality of life, anxiety/depression, pain intensity and pain interference. Individuals thus far have generally reported functional gains/improvement and support in their transition to adulthood.
