Indications and Contraindications to regional analgesia in Trauma and Acute Pain Management and Upper Extremity hands-on.
Workshop
Dr. Alrayashi will discuss the advantages of nerve blocks for providing powerful analgesia for accidental surgical trauma-related pain of the extremities and the thorax/abdomen. This introductory presentation will help the audience understand when it is appropriate to perform a nerve block and, equally important, when it is inappropriate or contraindicated and why. We will discuss the relevant anatomy of innervation of body regions and allow the audience to understand the choice of blocks in a variety of situations. He will also discuss the important topic of compartment syndrome and the use of nerve blocks when there is a risk for it. During the hands-on workshop, Dr. Alrayashi will demonstrate and educate attendees about sonographic anatomy relevant to upper extremity nerve blocks for shoulder and elbow surgeries. He will focus on interscalene and infraclavicular brachial plexus blocks for upper extremity pain.
