This abstract presents a randomized clinical pilot study which aims were to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability and effects of Buzzy, a cold and vibrating device, compared to Maxilene, a topical anesthetic cream, for pain and anxiety management of children (4-17 y o.) from immunology and hemato-oncology departments, during needle-related procedures. Both interventions were considered feasible and acceptable by children, parents and nurses. There were no significant difference between groups on the effects on pain and anxiety. Although parents preferred the topical anesthetic cream Maxilene over Buzzy for pain management of their child during a painful needle-related procedure.
