Clinical and research considerations in adapting a pediatric intensive interdisciplinary pain treatment (IIPT) program model to meet the needs of young adults
Panel Discussion
Dr. Shulman will discuss how a successful pediatric intensive interdisciplinary pain treatment program is being adapted to suit the unique needs of young adults with chronic pain. This presentation will highlight unique insights and challenges encountered while developing an IIPT program for young adults. Dr. Shulman will specifically discuss how the program content, structure, processes, and clinical research were adapted to meet the needs of young adults, including shifting the nature of pain education, outcomes assessment, and the role of caregivers. Rehabilitation interventions and measurement tools will be discussed to illustrate a model of disability assessment and treatment that can be applied across the pediatric and AYA age continuum. As the young adult IIPT is slated to open in Spring 2023, any available data related to clinical outcomes for initial participants will be disseminated.
