We have integrated Paediatric Chronic Pain screening questions into our new perioperative care pathway. All children requiring surgery at our tertiary and major trauma centre will be screened for chronic pain in the pre-operative period, during nursing preassessment. They can then be directly referred to the Chronic Pain team for timely management of pain, often before their planned surgical date. This has led to better perioperative care of children with chronic pain and earlier identification and management of chronic pain conditions.
